Scientific innovation achievements of CAMS&PUMC Displayed on the Health Industry Expo


On August 18, 2017, the “Health Silk Road” High-level Meeting was held in Beijing. This meeting was themed “Build the Belt and Road for Health and Share Health Development”. A lot of VIPs attended the high-level meeting, including Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of China, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, and more than 20 ministerial-level officials from around 30 countries, as well as those from WHO and UNAIDS. Also present at the meeting were more than 300 representatives from relevant government agencies, research institutions, NGOs, think tanks and enterprises. Li Bin, Minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), hosted the opening ceremony. CAMS/PUMC President Xuetao Cao was invited to attend the meeting.

Vice Premier Liu Yandong made a keynote speech at the ceremony. China has contributed the “China’s power” to building up stronger defense wall for global public health security, and hoped to strengthen cooperation with the international community and contribute more “China’s wisdom” to human health, she said. The health cooperation reflected the people's desire for a healthy life and an important content of the “Belt and Road” Initiative. President Xi Jinping proposed to join hands to build a "Health Silk Road". China welcomes the active participation of other countries across the world in deepening the international cooperation in medical and health care. She put forward four suggestions: Deepening joint efforts in prevention and control, strengthening dialogue on policies, promoting innovation and cooperation, and advocating mutual learning. Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Executive Director Michel Sidibé also delivered speeches respectively, speaking highly of and giving support to the development of the “Belt and Road” and “Health Silk Road”.


During the meeting, the Health Industry Expo was also held simultaneously. As a national team in the field of medical science and technology innovation, CAMS&PUMC demonstrated a lot of landmark achievements concerning new drug discovery, vaccine R&D, development of medicinal plant resources, and medical device R&D in the “favorable and innovative” exhibition area. Cui Li, Vice Minister of the NHFPC, Qin Huaijin, Director, Division of Science and Education of the NHFPC, Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Executive Director Michel Sidibé, and ministerial-level officers from other countries visited the exhibition area of CAMS&PUMC. President Cao accompanied them to visit the exhibition. Bicyclol, developed by the Institute of Materia Medica CAMS/PUMC, came into the market in Russia and other seven countries along the “Belt and Road”. Bifendate has been sold to South Korea, Egypt, Vietnam, Burma and other countries. Enterovirus 71 vaccine independently developed by the Institute of Pathogen Biology of CAMS/PUMC was the first to appear on the international market. Sabin inactivated polio virus vaccine was made available on the market to fill the blank in China.The whole-tree agrawood-inducing technique, independently developed by the Institute of Medicinal Plant is the world’s first one to produce high-quality Aquilariae Resinatum Lignum in a stable and efficient manner and has been used as the pilot product in the eight countries along the “Belt and Road”. The comprehensive utilization of Panax notoginseng has yielded economic and social benefits in a wide range of aspects. The ophthalmic ultrasonic diagnosis and treatment equipment independently designed by the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, has been exported to more than 60 countries and regions, enjoying the great popularity of countries along the “Belt and Road”.
