Swedish Higher Education and Research Minister Helene Hellmark Knuttson Visits CAMS&PUMC

On June 12, 2017, Ms. Helene Hellmark Knuttson, Swedish Minister of Higher Education and Research, led a delegation to visit CAMS&PUMC, accompanied by the Swedish Embassy in China Chargé d'affaires Mr. Per Augustsson, the Swedish Minister of Education and Political Advisor Klas-Herman Lundgre, as well as head of the Swedish Higher Education Commission, head of the Swedish National Innovation Agency and president of the Karolinska Institute. President Xuetao Cao, Vice President Qin Zhang, and Vice President Xue Zhang met with the delegation.




President Xuetao Cao said, as the national research center of medical science, theChineseAcademyof Medical Sciences (CAMS) shoulders the task of buildingChina's core base of medical science and technology innovation.Swedenis one of the earliest western countries to establish diplomatic relations withChina. With the strong supports of the Chinese and Swedish governments, CAMS&PUMC attaches great importance to the cooperation with Sweden, have signed cooperation agreements with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Uppsala University, and Karolinska Institute and carried out extensive collaboration in joint seminars, information sharing, and exchange and training of doctors, teachers and students and other aspects.Swedenboasts medical research and higher education institutions that take a leading position in theEuropeand even the world. He hoped that a joint research center would be set up at CAMS in the future so that cooperation can be carried out in researches on difficult diseases, transformation medicine and chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, cancer and infectious diseases, etc.


Ms. Knuttson spoke highly of the cooperation achievements of the two countries in education and scientific research in recent years, introduced the latest development of education inSweden, and offered advice on the two sides’ further intensifying policy dialogue and information exchange in the future, deepening pragmatic cooperation between colleges, and promoting personnel exchange. She saidSwedenis willing to work together withChinato raise the Sino-Swedish education exchange to a new level.
