President Xuetao Cao Meets with President of the United States National Academy of Medicine

On the afternoon of April 5, 2017, President Xuetao Cao met with Dr. Victor Joseph Dzau, President of the United States National Academy of Medicine (NAM). Also present at the meeting were Professor Genhong Cheng of Suzhou Institute of Systems Medicine, Vice Dean Limin Li of CAMS&PUMC Graduate School, and Deputy Director Chen Wu of Department of International Cooperation.


During the meeting, President Xuetao Cao first extended his welcome to President Victor Joseph Dzau on behalf of CAMS&PUMC. He stated that NAM, together with United States National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and National Academy of Engineering (NAE), is known as one of the three national academes in the United States and is the think tank of American medical science research. For decades, NAM has provided numerous authoritative decision-making advice for the government and people, and played a positive role in promoting global health. President Cao also pointed out that CAMS&PUMC is vigorously promoting the building of a core base for national medical science & technology innovation system, and he hoped that Dr. Dzau’s visit at such a time helps establish an exchange channel for CAMS and NAM and make greater contributions to medical health.


 


President Dzau said that CAMS & PUMC is a Chinese national institute of medicine and a top-notch medical education institute covering all fields including basic medical sciences, clinical medicine, pharmacy, and preventive medicine, and has formed an overall layout of “medicine, education, research, industry, and prevention” and development model of science-education integration and medicine-education synergy. He was impressed for the achievements CAMS&PUMC had made in past decades. He said NAM is looking forward to establishing a close partnership with CAMS&PUMC, carrying out scientific research and academic exchanges and jointly providing support for the innovation of both medical science and technology.


The leaders of NAM and CAMS&PUMC conducted in-depth exchanges on the topic of common concern and possible future cooperation areas.


On the morning of April 5, President Xuetao Cao accompanied Minister Bin Li of National Health and Family Planning Commission to meet President Victor Joseph Dzau at the Commission.
