PUMC Young Teachers Association Established

On December 27, 2016, the first plenary session of the inaugural Council of PUMC Young Teachers Association was held in Beijing. PUMC President Xuetao Cao and Vice President Qin Zhang attended the event, which was presided over by Vice President Qin Zhang.

President Xuetao Cao first pronounced the Circular on the Establishment of PUMC Young Teachers Association (YI KE JIAO FA [2016] No. 359), and delivered an address. As he pointed out, PUMC is a cradle of China’s modern medicine and has been the first in China to provide eight-year medical education and advanced nursing education, cultivating a large number of medical discipline pioneers and academic backbones for the country. Teachers are the most precious resources of PUMC and “prominent professors” are hailed as one of its three “treasures”. “In the process of the building of an innovation-driven country and the construction of top universities and disciplines, young teachers should carry forward the centenary tradition of PUMC, strengthen communication and exchanges, and strive for greater achievements. They should contemplate the rules, contents and characteristics of medical education, carry forward the good traditions of PUMC, and play a leading role in China’s medical education”, said Cao, emphasizing that young teachers should carefully study the tenet of the national conference on the ideological and political work of colleges and universities, and perform their teaching duties wholeheartedly according to the requirements of Chinese President Jinping Xi.

President Xuetao Cao and Vice President Qin Zhang also presented certificates to members of the first Council of PUMC Young Teachers Association.

The members studied the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Studying the Tenet of the National Conference on the Ideological and Political Work of Colleges and Universities and conducted productive discussions. They said that they were ready to work together under the leadership of PUMC, and to make good use of the platform for young teachers to strengthen communication and cooperation in teaching and research, learn from each other for mutual progress, and make contribution to the development of PUMC.

The goal of the first Council of PUMC Young Teachers Association, which consists of 40 young teachers, is to “promote young teachers to pursue their educational ideals and achieve professional development”, encourage them to broaden their horizon, and help them to become a scholarly teacher and the backbone of PUMC.
