Top 100 Hospitals List Released and the 4th China Medicine Science Development Forum Held in Beijing

The release ceremony of 2016 Top 100 Hospitals list and the 4th China Medicine Science Development Forum, sponsored by Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and organized by CAMS Institute of Medical Information, took place at CAMS’ auditorium on December 20, 2016. CAMS & PUMC President Xuetao Cao attended the ceremony and delivered an address. Also present at the ceremony were Yuanbin Wu, Director-General of the Department of Social Development and Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Peixin Wu, Deputy Director-General of Department of Health Science, Technology and Education under the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), Peng Chen, Editor-in-Chief of China Science Daily, and Min Yang, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA). Academician Shengshou Hu, Director of the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and President of Fuwai Hospital, Prof. Shuyang Zhang, Vice President of CAMS & PUMC, and Prof. Jie Qiao, President of Peking University No. 3 Hospital gave speeches on the research capacity of hospitals and the construction of clinical medicine disciplines. About 300 leaders and scholars from top hospitals and research institutions around the country also attended the event.


 

President Xuetao Cao said in his address that medical science is key to improving population health and is the basis for advancing the healthcare reform and cultivating the strategic emerging industry of biomedicine, of great significance to attaining the strategic health objectives. He emphasized that innovative thinking and methods must be adopted in medicine science evaluation, which is a fundamental way to promote innovation-driven development in medicine. “I hope the selection of Top 100 Hospitals list can help to propel the application of clinical medicine achievements of hospitals, improve the quality of medical technology and the overall work of hospitals, and ultimately lift the development level of China’s medicine science”, he added, “I also hope that on the basis of scientific evaluation modes, it can bring into full play the role of science evaluation and strengthen hospital and public participation, so as to bring benefits to more patients and advance the development of China’s medicine science in an all-round manner.” He also said that “CAMS is ready to work together with other institutions to implement the principles of the National Scientific &Technological Innovation Conference, National Health Conference, and the National Conference on Medical Innovation, and make greater contribution to building an coordinated and efficient medical innovation system and making China a great power in medical sciences.”


       

Mr. Yuanbin Wu pointed out that to advance medical innovation is essential to the building of a great power in science and technology, and hospitals need to focus on the country’s strategic needs, seize opportunities, and be prepared to cope with the great challenges for medical innovation under the new conditions. Peixin Wu also acknowledged that medical innovation is an important part of the national scientific and technological innovation system and an urgent need for advancing the building of “Healthy China”, emphasizing that clinical medicine should give attention to impact assessment of technology transfer and research results on diagnosis, treatment, prevention and other services, and set evaluation criteria based on research capacity, actual contribution, transfer and application, technical services, health improvement, industrial development, and other aspects.  


CAMS Vice President Zhongwei Zheng presided over the launch ceremony of 2016 Top 100 Hospital list, and Director Hui Chi of CAMS Institute of Medical Information introduced the ranking. The top 100 hospitals were distributed in 19 provinces and municipalities, with 24 hospitals in Beijing, 18 hospitals in Shanghai and 9 hospitals in Guangdong. By region, 71, 13 and 16 hospitals in East China, Central China and West China were included into the list respectively. At the ceremony, awards were presented to the top ten hospitals by overall influence and top three hospitals by discipline.
