Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences actively promotes strategic international development, focusing on leading cutting-edge medical research. Infection and immunity is an important field of medicine and life science research, not only concerning infectious diseases, but also about chronic non-communicable diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and autoimmune diseases among others, which draw many theoretical and clinical researches in the international biomedical research community. China and the United States have made remarkable achievements and breakthroughs in leading the study of infection and immunity. CAMS and NIAID have a long history of cooperation in the field of medicine, dating back to the early 1970s with joint researches that achieved fruitful results in esophageal cancer, cervical cancer, HIV and emerging diseases. This conference was significant in expanding and deepening Sino-US exchanges in the field of medical and health sciences, as well as in promoting and facilitating cooperation among national medical research institutions.
